I’ve been meaning to assemble a yearly schedule with at least one monthly GT6 race for Opponauts to participate in. Unfortunately, Gran Turismo 6 has a problem: I can’t drive at all of the same race tracks real racing series’ race at with all of the same cars. Thus, I have to be creative: Create my own racing series.
With a custom racing series it magically addresses another issue in GT6 for Opponauts who play less often: Lacking credits to purchase expensive vehicles or purchasing modifications.
The goal is to maintain low-cost racing. Nothing should cost over 100,000 credits at the most. This will help keep overall costs (car purchase + performance upgrades) under ~200,000. It will reduce the grinding required for those with fewer credits.
With that in mind, I’ll have to decide the racing regulations (specifications?), what tracks to race at, and possibly a points system. Over the following week I’m going to try to be diligent and check out the 757 cars that are available for under 100,000 credits and identify and create specification categories that the racing series can choose to run on for each year (or each month).

Yes I like this idea. I am always an advocate for early Sunday morning races or late night because living and working in CA means I can’t make the 6pm eastern time races or the Saturday morning races due to local car show.
I also like the idea of at least 2 big races. 1 long race like a Le Mans in the middle of the season and something like 20 laps Nurbergring at the end. They are fun and very challenging and break up the quick small races.

The Le Mans race I created a post about during the same 24 Hours of Le Mans weekend was scheduled for Saturday 10:30pm EST. That’s 7:30pm in California...is that still too early?
I understand finding a good time will be important, otherwise we just won’t get enough attendance.

Awesome. Once I get the ball rolling creating posts with ample notice time, I’m hoping we can get 10+ folks. For only a one day notice on the Le Mans race, there were 4/5 of us present.

I like the idea, I’m not an enormous fan of the Forza Series after Forza 4 (despite owning all Forza games since), and I like GT6 a lot, even though I don’t put that much time into it.
Plus, who wouldn’t want an Oppo spec Kei-car championship?

I like the idea, just some relatively cheap cars like the Lotus Elise and such. Though I’m not sure if the times of the races would work out for me since I live in Europe, so my participation kinda depends on the times.

On a more serious note I suggest the cars be of relatively low specification. On one hand this makes a vast number of cars eligible for competition, and since slower cars tend to be cheaper it also gives us more room for upgrades. But most importantly racing slower cars narrows the skill gap inbetween players and from experience I can tell you that creates much better and more intense racing.

I like this idea, keep us posted.
Another thought would be a PP limit instead of a cost limit.

I would need to take a trip to my parents house because my PS3 is stored there which will be in a couple of weeks probably. I would love to do this.

If it can be after 9pm PST I’m interested, after the kids are asleep. We’ve raced before.

I’ll see what I can do. Time zones are a real hassle...9pm PST is 12am EST. It’s a huge toss in the air, even if we are only gathering once a month.

Oh I understand. 8pm might be doable for me if I can plan TV time ahead and the kids cooperate, but that’s dinnertime. ParentLyfe.

I was poking around some of the available cars - the base model race car version of the Toyobaru looks like a pretty good bet (“86 Race Car Base Model ‘12" is the full in-game name). Initial cost is 50k, comes with adjustable suspension already installed (though it won’t let you change the camber or toe settings, little odd), and since it’s a race car you have more leeway to play with downforce levels than you would on a street car with a wing tacked on. Fully upgraded it caps out at 530pp. 425 or 450 as the standard would provide enough room for people to tinker. Tires are SH by default, which I’d prefer to slicks anyway for low-pp racing.
There are a number of other base model cars, they’re essentially race cars you can paint - lot of the cars that have liveries already on when you buy them can’t be painted over. The ‘86 is the cheapest, but money isn’t hard to come by in GT6 at the moment (one quick match will net you six figures easily even if you don’t win, and the seasonal events have ridiculously large payouts).
Anyway, sounds like fun, and if you’re taking racing number reservations I like to run #22. :)
